Research Abstract

Each October 31st, something in the mountains of West Virginia emits a signal detectible by sensitive scientific instruments and Dreamers. Dubbed "the Scream," is has apparently been the subject of study and subterfuge for almost a century. Dreamers who used the Quiet Zone to help escape the symptoms of EMF sensitivity reminded each other to be gone from area before the Scream, leading to the Feast Before the Scream tradition among them. It is one of a number of named anomalous sounds (including "The Hum," "Bloop," and "Train") identified by researchers since the 1970s.

Speculation

Dr. Betty Riley states that the Scream was at least in part responsible for the dramatic collapse of a radio telescope in 1988. When B.A. Saint-Feline stayed in the region during the Scream, she experienced unusual phenomenon and her website spontaneously corrupted.
