Telescope Collapse (11/88)

Subject of Interest:

mysterious collapse of 300' radio telescope

Reason for Interest:

structure potentially destroyed by anomalous signal "The Scream"

Location:

Green Bank, Pocahontas County, WV

Date:

November 15, 1988

Involved Persons:

unclear

Presumed Affiliations:

The Council, Taylor Run Incident, Miskatonic University, The Scream

Research Abstract:

With no meteorological or seismic cause, a 300' radio astronomy telescope in Green Bank, WV, completely collapses due to a failed gusset, halting work by 150 researchers from more than 40 universities and other laboratories. After initial nationwide press, the story disappears from public sight.

Speculation:

eXu implies that the telescope and other events in the National Radio Quiet Zone (NRQZ) are related to the activities of The Council. Dr. Elizabeth Riley of Miskatonic University takes this further by suggesting that the collapse was caused at least in part by the anomalous terrestrial signal known as "The Scream" and might have lead to the Miskatonic expedition that disappeared in the Taylor Run Incident.
